Frequently Asked Questions

What we're often asked when people contact:
1
) "Are you a dairy?" No, but there's one nearby in Emory called P&E Farms 903-335-9686
2) "Who is your vet?"  "Do you know someone who disbuds?"  "Where do you buy supplies?" Check out Goat Care page for those answers.

Sales & Pickup

How do I reserve a goat?
Use this reservation form.  We have a "first to pay gets the goat" policy.  We reply to inquiries in order received, but unfortunately you might miss out on a goat because someone sent deposit before you.

Do you keep a pre-kidding wait list?  No, we only accept reservations after kids are born.

What's your refund policy for deposits?
You have 5 calendar days to cancel and receive refund.  After that time, deposit is non-refundable unless seller cancels or buyer does not accept condition of goat at time of pickup.

What's included in cost?
Registration/transfer paperwork, CDT vaccines, disbudding and tattoo.

Do you offer guarantees?
We sure do! We offer health, CAE/Johnes, and fertility guarantees. For more info, see "guarantees" section of sales policy

Can we name our kid?
Maybe. Our usual policy is we name because 1) It's part of the fun of breeding and 2) Past buyer issues.  If you have a special name in mind, talk to us.

Do you sell wethers?
No. We give back to the community by donating them to 4H and school ag programs.

Why do your goats cost so much?
Purebred, registered animals simply cost more. You are not just buying a goat, but the time and care we invested to build our herd.

When do I pick up my goat?
For kids: Usually 10-12 weeks of age. Bottle babies: By 10 days of age.  All others: Within 14 days of reservation.

Where do I pickup?
In our driveway. Due to liability reasons and the health & safety of our herd, we do not allow guests in our barn.  You can see the goats and we're happy to bring specific ones over to you.

Registration & Goat Names

How do I contact registries?
  • AGS    www.americangoatsociety.com
  • ADGA  www.adga.org
  • NDGA  www.ndga.org

How do I register/transfer?
We give you everything you need. If you didn't buy from us, the seller should've given you -- For new registration: registration form.  For goats already registered: Original certificate and transfer form (might be on certificate).

How do I name my goat?
You need to use the proper format which is: Herd name (person who owned goat when bred) + Goat name = Name that doesn't exceed 30 characters (including spaces).  Example 1: Dixie Blue Final Call (21 characters).  Dixie Blue is herd name.  Final Call is goat name.  Example 2:  Another method is using sire's initial. Dixie Blue T Last Alarm (23 characters).  The "T" is initial of Thor, the sire's name.

How do I register & name kids from a goat I bought bred?
Use the “who owned the doe” rule.  Use herd name of who owned doe at time of breeding.  Use tattoo ID of who owned doe at birth.  So if you buy a bred doe from us, you will name kids "Dixie Blue ...... " but use your tattoo ID.  When submitting paperwork, you must include service memo (make copies if multiple kids are born).

Do I need to be a member to register a goat?
No, but fees will cost more.

Do I need a herd name? Tattoo ID?
Yes, if you want to breed and register kids. You usually need to be a member to apply for herd name and tattoo.

What do prefix letters and +* symbols mean on certificates?
It means your goat has show wins, good milking lines, and/or excellent genetics.  Click here for a great article that breaks it down for you.

What is re-registration?
Let's say you have a registered goat, but it's not with your preferred registry. You can re-register.  That's when you send registration proof to your preferred registry and they say "sure, we'll add that goat to our records." Not all registries recognize each other. Here's a list of who accepts who:
  • AGS registered -- Can re-register to ADGA & NDGA
  • ADGA registered -- Can re-register to AGS & NDGA
  • NDGA registered -- Cannot re-register. AGS & ADGA do not accept NDGA only goats.

All this registration and membership stuff confuses me. Can you help?
